Practical Life

Apple Slicing and Preparation: Children will practice using a safe apple slicer to prepare apples for snack time, developing fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and a sense of independence.

Spooning and Pouring Activities: New works with scoops, spoons, and pitchers will be introduced to strengthen wrists and refine pincer grips.

Polishing: We will use apple polishing to learn to care for the environment and for the fruit that we eat.
Sensorial

Apple Tasting: We will conduct a tasting of different apple varieties (e.g., Gala, Granny Smith, Honeycrisp) to explore and compare flavors, colors, and textures.

Color Box Work: Our color boxes will be used to explore and match the colors of apples, with a special focus on shades of red, green, and yellow.
Language

Vocabulary: We will introduce vocabulary related to apples, including parts of the apple (skin, stem, seeds, core, flesh), apple products (juice, sauce, cider), and seasonal changes.

Apple Books and Songs: We will read books like How Does an Apple Grow? and learn songs such as Way Up High in the Apple Tree during our circle time.

3-Part Cards: Apple-themed three-part cards will help children with object-to-word matching and classification.
Mathematics

Counting and Sorting: Children will use real and artificial apples to practice one-to-one correspondence and sorting by size, color, or type.

Fraction Work: Older students will be introduced to the concept of fractions using apple fractions, like half and whole.
Science and Culture

Life Cycle of an Apple: We will be studying the life cycle of the apple, from flower to fruit.

Backpacks & Belongings
Please bring a full-sized backpack (for preschoolers and toddlers) and label all your child’s belongings.
Dress for the Weather
Fall weather can be unpredictable. Please send your child with appropriate layers so we can enjoy our time exploring outdoors.
Spare Clothes & Shoes

At least two seasonally appropriate spare outfits (top, pants, socks, underwear).

Clothes should be comfortable and easy to manage independently (buttons, buckles, and snaps can be tricky).

Shoes: No light-up shoes for indoor wear, no sandals or Crocs for outdoors. Tennis shoes that slip on or use Velcro are preferred.

Health & Wellness
We encourage families to share any changes in your child’s routine or home life that may affect them during the school day. This helps us better support each child’s individual needs.
Lunches
Please assure your child brings:

A nutritious lunch with all food groups

No high-sugar foods (candy, cookies)
-
No squeezable foods (Go-Gurts, pouches)
-
Practice opening/closing lunch boxes and containers at home

September 22 – Little Blues Traveling Zoo In-house field trip! (9:30–11:30 AM)

No required fees, but donations are appreciated to help cover the cost. Donations can be given at drop-off or anytime in September. Thank you!

Soccer Shots – Please sign up soon if your child would like to participate.

🍎 Footwear: Practice putting on and taking off shoes
🍎 Dressing: Practice putting on clothes independently
🍎 Toileting: Practice flushing and pulling pants up and down independently
🍎 Handwashing: Use soap properly, create bubbles/lather, rinse thoroughly
🍎 Social Skills: Practice sharing, taking turns, and covering mouth when coughing/sneezing
