🍀March Learning & Activities🍀
We welcome Spring with open arms! In spring, we experience winter and summer all in one day. The month of March will be filled with so many fun learning activities! Through our St Patrick’s Day themed work trays students will learn foundational skills through counting, sorting, color recognition, art and fine motor skills themed around shamrocks, rainbows, and leprechauns!
We will learn about living and nonliving things. Additionally we will learn about weather and the four seasons.
We will learn about Ireland, examine the flag, learn its colors and delve into the tale of the origins of St. Patrick’s Day!
Language: We continue to learn our sounds and practice them each day! At this point in the year we are so excited to see students telling us the sounds of the letters and starting to put them together to form short words.
Dr. Montessori always pointed out that the young child has a natural sensitivity for language development which follows closely on the years when he or she learns to speak his native language. The child at three, four and five years of age has a unique fascination for words, both printed and spoken. This fascination often enables him/her to begin reading and writing before the age at which it is traditionally taught.
The individual presentation of language materials in the Montessori classroom allows the teacher to take advantage of each child’s greatest periods of interest. Reading instruction can begin on the day when the child wants to know what a word says or when he or she shows interest in using the Sandpaper Letters. Writing nearly always precedes reading in the Montessori environments.
Math: We are working on understanding the values of numbers by using the number rods, spindle boxes, cards and counters, and the numbers and counters.
🍀Toddler Learning & Activities🍀
In March toddlers will make colorful rainbow crafts and art and our main color focus will be on the color green! The little ones will discover many new things this month. We will use green materials to count from one to ten, and will learn that March is part of the spring season. We will take walks outside to see what we can find for springtime, such as birds, ladybugs and insects. What an awesome way to explore our environment and share with our little friends! Our NOM toddlers will collect items in nature and count and name the color of all the items they collected.
For practical life, we will practic our skills by using tongs to pick up colorful items and put them in matching bowls. We will also use tongs to sort colorful items on our trays. These activities help us improve our motor skills and coordination.
Our toddlers love circle time the most. They enjoy singing our good morning songs and nursery rhymes. During this time, we learn the alphabet as well as numbers, colors, and shapes.
To celebrate St. Patrick's Day, our toddlers are encouraged to wear green clothes when possible and are invited to bring green foods or anything else green for everyone to enjoy and find a fun connection with our featured color this month!
🍀Things to Remember 🍀
🍀 With spring showing it’s beautiful face and the variety of weather we will inevitably experience in March we ask that families keep the forecast in mind and plan accordingly as to what your child may need for outdoor wear. Some days a sweater may be sufficient, other days we will need them to have a winter coat! Additionally some days the forecast may be in the mid 60’s yet in the morning the temps may still be in the 40’s. We still need cold weather jackets most days in March for at least part of our outdoor time.
🍀 Spring break will be March 16-20 NOM will be closed the entire week.
🍀 Enjoy the beautiful weather!
